Studio Rockers Interview & EXCLUSIVE Trip Brothaz Milktape

What is the idea behind Studio Rockers Records ?

The Idea behind Studio Rockers is to make great music and keep pushing forward the boundaries of dubstep, as well as promoting new talent wherever possible.

When was it started?

Studio Rockers was started 3 years ago by Tony Thorpe A.KA The Moody boyz.

What kind of music do you release?

We release dubstep of all different shapes and sizes, deep dark, jump up, techy… if you want it we’ve got it.

What’s been you biggest release to date?

Our biggest release to date has been “Sensi Samurai” by The Widdler, it’s a storming track that got a huge amount of exposure. However our latest E.P featuring Decyfer & Surje has been a very big release for us also.

Where are you based?

We are based in East London.

Why run a label? Times are hard in the music industry now, right?

Times are hard but if you have the dedication to make it work then that’s what counts, we just concentrate on pushing good music to people that want it. We have just released our first L.P which is a mix of exclusive Studio Rockers tracks which has been received very well, being voted as top compliation of the month in IDJ mag, it just goes to show that the hard work can pay off.

So many people link these guys... Let's go to know something more.............

Tell us about your most recent release on Botchit & Scarper

ByrdKick is a blended B-more/electro/filth that was created originally
for a Jay-z Bootleg and ended up being voxed up by Malaysian MC
Arabyrd and also the first track picked by Botchit.
Hustle Muzik is a tune i did a while back one night very late(or
early) and quite buzzed up... Its one of my fav tune as it's a journey
that has soul, release, anger, light, and darkness... Although one said
its a souless track...
My boy Illeagle Immigrant just rips the beat heavy!

How would you describe your sound?

Its very diverse really... And moves every day... i mean what i
produce today is so different than what i was doing 3 months ago...
Really hard to tag it... but i guess it flows between
Hiphop,Electro,Dubstep,Breaks,World music and the sounds outside my
window.

What's your best bit of kit in the studio?

Not sure about the best but my favorite is my super cheap "Vintage"
acoustic guitar... 90 french francs (£80) back then.

How did you hook up with Arabyrd and Stereotyp?

I met Arabyrd through my best mate who is one of the heads at the
Giles Peterson's WorldWide Festival.
He played her some of my joints while in Singapour and she called me
on Skype... next i sent a beat and voila.
We met later that year at the same festival but in Sete (France) and
kept on building.
Stereo i met through the same bunch of people... Through Ara, Al haca,
my peeps at the Worldwide Festival...dope dude! Super chilled...

Where are you based?

I m a West London boy!! 12 years and goin strong...

Describe you DJ style?

In general im pretty hyper and jump like crazy and try to shout louder
than the crowd!
Dj style is again very diverse.. i come from learning Djing through
Techno and Hiphop at the same time.. So altho now i use Serato its
mix, cuts and scratch (not so much scratch tho.)
I also play some sets via Ableton Live. Create my own loops and bang
them with acapellas and other filthy trickeries!

What’s coming up?

Peace i hope...
A few remixes for: Bassnectar, KUBO's Stereotyp, Flore and a few other
filthy minds.
Workin live behind the machines for Nfa (No Fixed Abode) & backing up
on the mic RQM.
A lot more Son Of Kick tunes on the way too!
Playing around London,New York and Berlin.

Let's Go On Westway

What is the idea behind Westway Records?

Westway grew out of a night in London called The Truth that erstwhile Dub Pistol Barry Ashworth and myself (Carl Loben) were doing in the early noughties. We wanted to start a label that would push the envelope, have a distinct identity and a punk attitude, so we named it after the iconic flyover that towers over west London. The Clash – who we both loved - immortalised the Westway, as did the Dub Pistols in an early single, so it seemed quite apt.

When was it started?

The first release in the mid-noughties was ‘Substance & Sound’ by Dogtown Clash.

What kind of music do you release?

Breakbeat, punky electro, graffiti house, dutty dubstep… anything that’s floating our boats, we chuck it out.

What’s been your biggest release to date?

Probably ‘West London’s Burning’ by Dogtown Clash. We had a great video shot in Japan for this baby that was playlisted on MTV, and it was Eddy TM’s most played record on his Xfm show ever. It also picked up radio plays from unexpected quarters, such as Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 1 (he also used the horns intro as a sounded for his NME Awards show) and Phill Jupitus on 6Music, as well as all the usual suspects. Otherwise, our new release Westway 25 – Myagi & The Root Sellers ‘Rock One’ with Utah Saints and Zero B remixes – is shaping up to be a biggie too

Where are you based?

We’ve released tracks by international artists from Belarus (Access Denied), Germany (B-Phreak, Boogie Army), Italy (Madox) and various other countries, all co-ordinated from a laptop stuck on the central reservation of the Westway.

Why run a label?

Good question. It’s a labour of love really. Now that we’ve stopped doing vinyl it’s a simpler process, and just a nice thing to be doing. It’s also a good outlet for some of our own stuff – Dogtown Clash, Drum Monkeys, Zero B etc.

What’s coming up?

Well, after this big release with the U-U-U-Utah Saints and Zero B remixes we’ve got one from Cut La Roc as we spin off into the new decade. We’ll probably do another label comp at some point (the first one, ‘Westway To The World’ was very well received), more label nights, and eventually achieve world domination

Pink A Pad's is Back

Merry Christmas!!
We back to wish you all a Merry Christmas and to invite your ears to listen this new eclectic duo from Milan...!!
But first to know best what you hear, here the interview:

Who(is) Pink a Pad's??

We are two Italian producers and djs, Andrea(Seife) & Manuel(Seth). we love music, we love every big and small world arownd sound and contemporary art.
We think music can be a really good opportunity to make peaple happy and throw away a lot of troubles of daily routine and normal life, we make music and we can save the world!!

What(kind of music make) Pink a Pad's??

So.. we started in 2007 producing breakbeat and funk music and in 2008 we have been infected by fidget house and electro scene We are grown listening punk, ska & hip hop music, but we think that you can been inspired by every sound arownd you, your influence can derive from a classical tune or from a noise that you hear in the street so.. you just have to learn to listen everything arownd you, noises as well.
Our music is a kind of mix between our feelings, what happen during our days, and of course from our personal musical tastes and what's happen in this moment arownd the dance scene.

Where(comes from) Pink a Pad's??

We' re from north italy, near Turin but now we live in Milan, sometimes in london and sometimes in other parts of the world, in reality we re some kind of poor homeless.

Why Pink a Pad's??

We started to call us pinkapads couse nobody can remember our names. In 2006 we were working at differents drum n bass and breakbeat projects arownd Italy than we decided to fix a name for a new project with a new colorand new sounds so...

When(is born) Pink a Pad's??

Seriously, pinkapads project grows up in an alcoolic night like joke, we decide to work for a funky tune with guitar and drums sample recorded in a sunday afternoon chilled session in our homestudio after a very hard saturday night party, we finish that tune and a pack of fags in 4 hours and the day after we send it arownd the web just to see the feeds you know, an italian label (dirty drop records) text back and liked our stoned sounds, from that day we start to clean that and sound and work seriously between 125 and 135 bpm.

And now pump the volume!!

Katorza Records Interview + Mixtape

What is the idea behind Katorza Records ?

To release cutting edge underground dance music without beeing preoccupied by genres, styles or trends

When was it started?

Early 2008, first release was Redux “Diskobreaks” with two different Maelstrom Remixes

What kind of music do you release?

Underground dance music with a main focus on bass and drums, it doesnt matter if its breaks, or house, or or techno, as long as it is fat and well produced, and we also like vocals.

What’s been you biggest release to date?

Katorza 02 – Maelstrom Ft Mc Youthstar “The Beat Police” was nearly sold out after 2 weeks.

Where are you based?

Nantes (West Coast of France)

Why run a label? Times are hard in the music industry now, right?

Times are hard, but I just read that the vinyl sales are rising, and I think that as long as the music is good, people will buy it.
the other reason is that we have a total control on every part of the process, from selecting and signing the tracks to choosing the mastering house and the pressing plant

What’s coming up?

Next is Shila's Bedroom Fashion's “I Like Skirts”, a massive electro banger featuring the vocals of californian Ms Vybes, backed with a Maelstrom & Redux breaks mix
the follow up will be a collaboration between myself and Redux, but I cant say who will remix it yet.... it has to stay secret for a while ;)

This Guys F**cks!! Phonat Debut Album Out Now!!

Welcome back!!

Happy to present to you an amazing artist originally from Florence: Phonat living and producing in U.K. where is out with his debut album "Phonat" released by MofoHifi Records..

"Annie Mac, Annie Nightingale, Andy George, Rob da Bank and Pete Tong have all been championing the producer since last year, when singles ‘Incredible Sound’, ‘Ghetto Burning’ and ‘Learn To Recycle’ marked him as one to watch for 2009 and beyond. Now readying the release of his eponymous debut album, Phonat has created a panoply of chopped up riffs swirled around murky basslines, a world where guitar-driven dancefloor fillers meet bleep-filled fantasies for fun, friendship and possibly more."

Interview with Giant Pussy Records

What is the idea behind Giant Pussy Records ?

Cutting edge dance music: ghetto-house A-sides, and dub-step B-sides. Its the sound of urban-club crossover.

What kind of music do you release?

Within our remit is anything well-produced that rocks clubs. We don’t shy away from vocals, rapped or sung. We love our break-beats and tech-funk grooves. It’s a constant mash-up of old and new school sounds.

Where are you based?

I am in Brighton, Nick’s in Wimbledon. But the studio and label office is with me on the coast. But as DJs, we endlessly tour, the UK, Europe and the world at large. Nowhere escapes the sound of Giant Pussy.

Why start a new label?

No one is doing what we do. Some try, but none come close. Since we began our formula the “dub-step b-side” has become the norm. But we’re happy to set trends.

When was it started?

2009.

Whats coming up?

Our latest release is 321 vs Tim Healey & Deekline: Bring it Back, with a spectacular video, and coming soon is the vocal version featuring the mighty Bounty Killer.

Next up is me and Felguk with a corking slab of peak-time club-action: “Rio” with an awesome dub-step remix by JFB, then there’s the next single “Fugu” from mystery super-producers – Stripper - with Akira Kiteshi’s dub-step re-work.
